The federal government offers several additional incentive programs that support propane vehicles and propane vehicle conversions.
Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax CreditThis tax credit is available for the cost of installing alternative fueling equipment placed into service after December 31, 2005. Fueling station owners who install qualified equipment at multiple sites are allowed to use the credit toward each location. The credit expires on December 31, 2010, for propane fuel. Alternative Fuel Tax ExemptionThis exemption applies to the purchase of propane when it is being used for engine fuel in a vehicle used on a farm for farming purposes; in certain intercity and local buses; in a school bus; exclusive use by a nonprofit educational organization; and exclusive use by a state, political subdivision of a state, or Washington, D.C.Improved Energy Technology LoansThe Department of Energy provides loan guarantees to eligible projects that reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases and support early commercial use of advanced technologies, including biofuels and alternative fuel vehicles.
