Street Sweepers
Street sweepers remove debris from roadways to improve community health
and safety. These systems need to be easy to use, maneuver, and refuel,
while reducing additional health and safety risks caused by air
pollution.

To meet these needs, PERC supported the development of the 195-horsepower Cummins Westport B LPG Plus spark-ignited propane engine. This engine is used to operate both the chassis and sweepers of Tymco International Model 600 and Pelican Elgin street sweepers. The Cummins engine is equipped with drive-by-wire technology, advanced electronic controls, improved sensors, and knock detection.
Propane-fueled street sweepers offer the following benefits: • Offer a tax credit of up to $32,000 for the Tymco International Model 600 (Visit the Internal Revenue Service for more information.) • Meet California Air Resources Board qualifications for Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles. • Clean streets while also minimizing air pollution. • Increase the efficiency of street cleaning by improving vehicle reliability.
